Japan |Partial Amendment of Specifications And Standards for Foods, Food additives, etc.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) announced on 25 February 2022 (under MHLW Notification No. 42 of 2022) a partial amendment of Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food additives etc. (Act No. 370 of 1959) to revise
the maximum residue limits (MRL) of Albendazole, Captan, Cyazofamid, Cypermethrin, Zeranol, Pyriofenone, Fluoxastrobin, Procymidone and Mandestrobin based on Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947);
the procedures for safety examination of recombinant DNA technology applied foods and additives;
the tamount specified by the MHLW as an amount that does not impair human health pursuant to the provisions of Article 11, Paragraph 3 of the Food Sanitation Act; and
the substances specified by the MHLW that does not post any risk in harming human health pursuant to the provisions of Article 11, Paragraph 3 of the Food Sanitation Act (MHWL No. 498 of 2005).
Main revisions:
1) Maximum Residue Limits (MRL)
Partial amendments has been made for the MRL of Albendazole, Captan, Cyazofamid, Cypermethrin, Zeranol, Pyriofenone, Fluoxastrobin, Procymidone and Mandestrobin.
2) Necessary amendments have been made to the notification of safety examination procedures for recombinant DNA technology applied foods and additives; and the amount and substances specified by the MHLW that is unlikely to cause any damage to human health.
Applicable Date:
This amendment shall apply from the day of notice. However, for the below food listed for each agricultural chemical etc., existing standards can still be used within one year from the announcement of this notification.
