Japan |Partial Amendment of Specifications And Standards for Foods, Food additives, etc.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) announced on 31 Aug 2021 (under MHLW Notification No. 323 of 2021) a partial amendment of Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food additives etc. (Act No. 370 of 1959) to revise the maximum residue limits (MRL) of Trenbolone Acetate, Kasugamycin, Chloropicrin, Validamycin, Dibutylhydroxytoluene, 1-Methylcyclopropene, Fenpropathrin, Prochloraz and the Trenbolone Acetate test method based on Article13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).
Main revisions:
1) Maximum Residue Limits (MRL)
Partial amendments has been made for the MRL of Trenbolone Acetate, Kasugamycin, Chloropicrin, Validamycin, Dibutylhydroxytoluene, 1-Methylcyclopropene, Fenpropathrin and Prochloraz based on Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).
2) Pursuant to the revision of the MRL of trenbolone acetate, which is set as "not detected" in some foods, the existing α-trenbolone and β-trenbolone test methods specified in the standard notification have been deleted and the corresponding the trenbolone acetate test method has been established.
Applicable Date:
This amendment shall apply from the day of notice. However, for the below food listed for each agricultural chemical etc., existing standards can still be used within one year from the announcement of this notification.
Amendments for the trenbolone acetest test method shall apply from the date of notification. However, the previous rules can still be applied for α-trenbolone and β-trenbolone test methods, within one year from the date of notification.
