Japan | Partial Amendment of Specifications And Standards for Foods, Food additives, etc.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) announced on 3 February 2021 (under MHLW Notification No. 34 of 2021) a partial amendment of Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food additives etc. (Act No. 370 of 1959) to revise the maximum residue limits (MRL) of Azoxystrobin, Cyflufenamid, Bixafen, Pyrifluquinazon and Pyriproxyfen; and the standards of use for Azoxystrobin based on Article13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).
Main revisions:
1) Maximum Residue Limits (MRL)
Partial amendments has been made for the MRL of Azoxystrobin, Cyflufenamid, Bixafen, Pyrifluquinazon and Pyriproxyfen based on Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).
2) Amendment of standards for use for Azoxystrobin.
The standards for use of the food additive, Azoxystrobin has been revised based on Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947) as follows:
After amendment
Azoxystrobin Azoxystrobin
Azoxystrobin should not be used in foods other than citrus fruits (excluding mandarin oranges) and potatoes.
Azoxystrobin must be used as azoxystrobin so that it does not remain in excess of 0.010 g per 1 kg of citrus fruits (excluding mandarin oranges) ; and 0.007 g per kg of potatoes.

Applicable Date:
This amendment shall apply from the day of notice. However, for the below food listed for each agricultural chemical etc., existing standards can still be used within one year from the announcement of this notification.
