The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) announced on 14 September 2020 (under MHLW Notification No. 310 of 2020) a partial amendment of Specifications and Standards for Foods, Food additives etc. (Act No. 370 of 1959) to revise the maximum residue limits (MRL) of Cyclaniliprole, Diquat, Tebuconazole, Broflanilide, Betamethasone, Benzpyrimoxan and the analytical method for Dexamethasone and Betamethasone based on Article13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).

Main revisions:

1) Maximum Residue Limits (MRL)

Partial amendments has been made for the MRL of Cyclaniliprole, Diquat, Tebuconazole, Broflanilide, Betamethasone and Benzpyrimoxan based on Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1947).

2) Analytical Methods

In accordance with the new regulations for Betamethasone, a veterinary drug, set to be "not detectable" in some foods, the existing dexamethasone analytical method has been deleted and a new analytical method for Dexamethasone and Betamethasone has been newly established based on the provisions of Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Act.

Applicable Date:

This amendment shall apply from the day of notice. However, for the below food listed for each agricultural chemical etc., existing standards can still be used within 6 months from the announcement of this notification.
