Korea | Partial Revision of Regulations on Inspection for Imported Food etc. (No. 2018-90)
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Korea (MFDS) announced partial revisions for the "Regulations on Inspection for Imported Food etc." under notification no. 2018-90 on Nov 15, 2018, today.
Main Revisions
In addition to the 58 target pesticides subjected to inspection for first time food imports, agricultural chemicals subject to close examination shall be amended according to precedent cases of non-conformity; there is also the need to amend the list of food recognized as safe by the MFDS.
Further, agricultural, forestry products that can be used for purposes other than food; food that are exhibited at overseas exhibitions; and equipment or container packaging that are re-imported for domestic manufacturing shall be exempted from distribution management as well.
Main contents of Revision
Items exempted from agricultural and forestry products distribution management (Article 4)
Exclusion of 115 agricultural and forestry products that are inspected with the same standard as herbal medicines from the distribution management.
Addition of items that does not require notification (Article 7)
Food that are exhibited at overseas exhibitions and manufacturing equipment that are re-imported for domestic manufacturing are exempted for customs declaration.
Amendment of the 58 pesticides required for close examination during first import (Table 3)
Addition of 6 non-conforming agricultural chemicals; exemption of 6 agricultural chemicals which had no incompliance and is detected for less than 5 times in the past 5 years.
Amendment of food that has been recognized as safe for consumption (Table 4) Excluding non-confirming food or items which their standards and criteria have been changed, food that has no non-conformity incidences in 5 years or items that don't have hazardous information shall be added to the list.
