Korea | Partial Revision of Food Code (No. 2018-60)

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Korea (MFDS) has announced partial revisions for the "Specifications and Standards" (hereafter referred to as the "Food Code") under notification no. 2018-60.

Main Revisions

The MDFS has newly established and revised the MRL standards for agricultural chemicals used in food products sold domestically and overseas; and revised the MRL of veterinary drugs used in food products sold domestically and overseas to supply safe food to the public.

Main contents of Revision

New Establishments and Revision of MRLs for Agricultural Chemicals in Agricultural Products

1) There is a need to newly establish and revise standards according to the safety management of pesticides newly registered in「Pesticide Control Act」 and new applications of MRL for agricultural chemicals used in imported agricultural products.

2) The MRL standards for 54 agricultural chemicals such as Glufosinate shall be newly established and revised accordingly.

3) The MRL of agricultural chemicals in agricultural products shall be reasonably revised to provide safe food products to the citizens of Korea.

Establishments and Revision of MRLs for Veterinary Drugs in Food Products

1) There is a need to revise the MRL standards for newly approved veterinary drugs in accordance with the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act.

2) New MRLs shall be established and revised for 11 veterinary drugs including Aminopyrine.

3) The MRL of veterinary drugs in food products shall be reasonably established to provide safe food products to the citizens of Korea.

Establishments of General Analytical Methods

1) There is a need to establish analytical methods for agricultural chemicals with newly established standards.

2) New analytical methods have to be established in accordance with the new standards established for the MRL of Tetraniliprole in agricultural products.

3) MFDS shall provide safe food products to the citizens of Korea by enhancing the reliability of analytical methods through the establishment of scientific analytical methods.
