[1124 No. 1] Japan | Partial Revision of Analytical Methods For Substances That Are Ingredients Of P

The Ministry of Health, Labor (MHLW) announced on Nov 24, 2017 that they will be partially revising the analytical methods for substances that are ingredients of pesticides, feed additives or veterinary drugs remaining in food (2, 4, 5 - T, Daminozide, Malachite green).

Outline Of Revision


Based on the provisions of Article 11 paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233 of 1951), 2, 4, 5 - T, Daminozide and Malachite green which were defined as substances which are components of agricultural chemicals or the like to be "undetectable" in food have been revised.


Among the ingredients standards for non-alcoholic beverages, the Gutzeit method which is the arsenic test method, stipulated to be "undetectable" in non-alcoholic beverages other than mineral water shall be deleted.

Effective Date

This announcement shall be effective from the day of promulgation. However, as long as it is within 6 months from the date of promulgation, the precedent regulations will still be applicable.


Notes


1) With the amendment of this notice, "the development of related laws and regulations accompanying the enforcement of Article 11, Paragraph 3 of the Food Sanitation Act after partial revision of the Act" (Attachment 3 Pharmaceutical and Food Safety Bureau No. 1129001 of Nov 29, 2005) shall be revised according to the comparison table of attachment 1.


2) When collecting samples to be used in the test from specimens, except for the cases specified separately, for the "Analytical method for substances that are ingredients of pesticides, feed additives or veterinary drugs remaining in food" (MHLW No. 0124001 of Jan 23, 2005) Chapter 1 General Provisions No. 4. shall be applied.


3) With the issuance of this notification, the Malachite green analytical method stipulated by No. 3 Others of the Partial Amendment of Specifications And Standards for Foods, Food additives, etc. (MHLW No. 1130001 of 2006) shall be deleted.
